Flag Day - Sec3s

Yozz sec3s! 

There'll be flag day organised by Singapore Association of the Deaf that'll be held on 27Nov2013, to help raise funds for the deaf community in Singapore.

The funds raised will go to a long way to support the following services they provide:

-    interpretation service for deaf clients who cannot afford to engage interpreters;

-    Itinerant Support Service to provide social care, learning support and communication assistance to deaf students attending mainstream schools;

-    affordable hearing aids and devices; and

-    financial assistance for the needy deaf clients

 

Details:

Time: any time slot from 9.00am - 6.00pm

Venue: collection of tins and stickers can be collected from Bugis, Jurong and HQ (SADeaf)

They hope to get more people to participate in their flag day activity so if you're free on that day and you're interested, please sign up for it ASAP!!

here are the details for the guides attending the SANA course on 31 Oct and 8 Nov.

Reflection for 18 October:)

Last Friday was our last Girl Guides activity for the year. I've then realize that I've already been a guide for a year! Time really flies and I has made a lot of lifetime friends there and also learnt a lot of new things. 
That day, we had our tent pitching and I worked with my friends and together, we pitched the tent together. At first, I thought it was impossible to pitch a tent in half an hour for me and my guide friends but we did it! Although it was not a perfect one, but it turned out quite well. 

Reflection for 16 October

On Wednesday, we had to fall in at 2.30 as usual. After our roll call and uniform check, we drilled for a little while. Next, we had our ice-cream making initiative, YAY! The instructors came from ice cream skool. They are friendly and helpful. We were each given a hand out about the ingredients. The instructors did a demonstration on how to make the Milo ice-cream, I watched her do it excitedly, can't wait to start making.

Energy Efficiency Badge for Sec 2s!

Hello Guides! 

You guys will be visiting the PSA building tomorrow to complete the last segment of your energy efficiency badge work. 
For the first component, you guys are required to complete an assignment ( Home Audit ) which contributes to 50% of your overall test marks. Most of you have handed the work to me for checking. For those who have not done so, do remember to bring your assignment which has your electricity bills attached to it. You need not hand up to me for checking anymore. 

For those guides who have handed up to me on Wednesday for checking, please look for me in 3IT, old block 4th floor, before FRC to retrieve your assignment as majority of you need to make amendments. 

These people need to bring your electricity bills as the assignment submitted to me does not include your bills : 
 1.Foo Jun Wei 
 2.Sheena Ng 
 3. Dinise Chng 
 4. Adelle Wee (You need to bring bills from March-May 2013, the one you gave me was from October)

If there is a star on the first page of your assignment, it means that there are certain requirements not fulfilled or there are certain errors. The mistakes will be written beside the star, so do make suitable changes and then erase the stars draw on your paper!

World Thinking Day 2014 Competitions! \o/

Hi Guides!!!

As mentioned during activity just now, there will be five competitions (Vlog, Poster Design, Band, Animation and Blog) for you to choose from. You are required to participate in at least one of them. 

All entries must be accompanied with a entry form (forms are with your respective CLs) and must capture the WTD theme ('Girls worldwide say, "Education opens doors for all girls."').  

The deadline for ALL the competitions is 2 January 2014, Wednesday. Please adhere to the deadline!

18 Oct's (Friday) Activity

These are the details for 18 Oct, Friday's activity

Sec1s:
Fall in at the concourse at 2.30pm sharp in your guides half u. Ensure that your nails are cut, socks are 4 fingers high and that your hair is neatly pinned up :) Also, please revise your A-frame tent as you will be having your 5point test and you are required to pitch the A-frame tent within 30mins.

Sec2s:
Fall in at the concourse at 2pm sharp in your guides half u. Ensure that your nails are cut, socks are 4 fingers high and that your hair is neatly pinned up :) Do store your bags in the guides room before coming for activity. Bring along the handouts given to you during the first session. If you have handed them up to Jing Yu QM, she will return them to you before you leave for the test. There will be a bus to the PSA building and back. :) JIAYOUS!

For both sec1s and sec2s:
1. Please read up on how to construct a kitchen sink (page 166 of the handbook). The lashes involved are snake lash and square lash.
2. Please bring along a blindfold/tie/old shirt.(keep it in your pocket) :D
3. Remember to bring your consent forms for EDD jamboree, Camp Christine cleanup and November Camp. Hand in the forms to Ying Ying ACL at 3BN. She will be in class by 7am! For the November Camp consent form, detach the bottom part of the first page and attach it to the second page. (Keep the top half of the first page for yourself!) Ensure that your parent has signed on both pieces of paper and fill up the forms before submitting them.
4. Also remember to bring your full uniform. Please refer to Jing Yu QM's checklist as your prepare your uniform.

Reflection for 11 October:)

On Friday, we fall in at 2.30 at the concourse and we had uniform check and roll call as usual, while the sec 2s went for their energy efficient course at the psa building. After that, we played h2o and it was really fun and exciting! We had to stand in pairs and there was one runner and one catcher. The catcher tried to catch the runner while the runner stood beside one of the pairs and the person who is standing beside at the other side would become the runner and has to run, and the cycle continued!  We drilled on the service road for a while and the seniors taught us how to tie snake lashes and clove hitch so that we could create gadgets to raise our bags up in the tent so that it would not touch the grass.  We had PT and it was fun because we got into pairs and piggybacked each other and we also did wheel barrel. We also ran around the lake twice. Although it was tiring, I enjoyed myself very much and I’m looking forward to the next activity!J

The attire for this Friday's activity is Guides half-uniform. Sec 2s, please fall in at 2pm! The bus leaves at 2.15pm, so don't be late! Bring your bags along because you'll be released from the PSA building! :D 

Sec 1s, please fall in at 2.30pm. If you have not handed in any assignments for your badge work, please remember to pass them to Wei Ran AQM before you fall in. The 5-Point test for tent pitching will be conducted this Friday as well so please revise.
