Reflection for 3 July! :D

Today was the first guides activity in semester 2. Activity started out with the usual roll call, collection of forms, uniform check and admin stuff. However for this week activity, we had initiative instead of the usual drilling, cheering sessions!! ^^ Our initiative this week was soap-making where guides were exposed to how the soap that we daily used were made, the sources and the procedures.

Ms Dewi, our instructor, taught us the difference between the organic soap and the commercial ones that were commonly found, and the soap that we were going to make, was more environmental-friendly and suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skins. We were also exposed to the different packaging and designs we could actually come out with, and it was also the time when we could unleash the creative juices and come up with something that is creative and unique. Finally, it was time for us to get our hands dirty! ^^

First, we melted the soap base and pour into cups that were provided for us. Second, we moved out to adding of fragrance to the soap, which is known as 'Purple Hooters' and colours of our own preference. This was the time where guides showcased their style as they mix and match the different colours, bringing out the amazing combinations that many of us were not expected. It was truly wonderful as we shared our comments and opinions on our soaps, complimenting on the hidden talents within us. After settling our creations, we poured the soap into the mould or tofu casing that we had brought along and let it sat to cool and harden. While waiting for our soap, Ms Dewi continued as she showed us examples of the wonderful wrappings that one could come up with, and we were asked to design our very own unique paper bag. Many of us wrote our special words and phrases, drew our favourite symbols and characters as well. As guides carefully craved out their designs, we then shared our happy moments and the different patrols were able to bond with one another as well. It was real great. After a good 15-20 min of artists-at-work, we concluded the soap making session and we were able to take out our soap from our casing and everyone was fascinated by the outcome of the soap.

All the guides had truly enjoyed themselves very much. It was a great and well-spent afternoon, as guides not only get to experience the creation of soap, but learnt more about saving our Mother Earth as well as spending quality time with their fellow guides mates. :) I look forward to the next initiative! :D
