Reflection for 31 July :)

On 31st July  guides started off with falling in at 245. After greeting the seniors, uniform check and taking attendance, we proceeded to doing some drilling. After which we proceeded for our initiative, which is the Chocolate Candy & Wafer Making Initiative. We firstly split into our different coys and proceeded with sitting with our own patrols. Luckily my friends were excused from that day's oral so they could take part in this initiative. This was a fun initiative as we could bond with our patrol and learn how to make chocolate candy and wafer. After the initiative, we were asked to fall in at the concourse where we did our punishments which was doing hentak for 1.5min. Although it was tiring but as guides we should have the all for one, one for all spirit so as to be able to forge a closer friendship it is through hard times that we become closer to one another. I hope we will improve on our attire and drilling in time to come (-:

Reflection for 26 July :)

Today we fell in as usual at 2.30, but CL said we were one minute late so i guess we need to improve our punctuality. After uniform check and roll call, we split into sec ones and twos and did our five point test. Sec twos were supposed to go around the school taking photos of 3 birds and 3 flowers, but since it was about to rain then, we could not spot any birds): we then proceeded into drawing our photos taken on foolscap. My group's drawing wasn't very good but i believed we tried our best!(: next, we joined the sec ones and did PT as a patrol. Today's PT was extremely fun compared to usual PTs which were extremely tiring and boring. We had balloons of different colours and my patrol's(Hibiscus) PL and AQM gave us their balloons so we had three! Yay! After PT our seniors gave us a harsh lecture about our attitude. I think it is something worth reflecting as some of our actions make it seem as if we take our seniors' efforts for granted. I hope we can improve as a whole and strive to be better!

-Yongyu, Hibiscus patrol

Everyone showing team spirit! (although picture is a little blurry ;p)

Sizing...

Reflection for 24 July :)

Activity on the 24th of July started off with the usual: Greetings, uniform checks and roll call. After that, we drilled for a while before going up to an empty classroom do our 5-point test which included the use of markers, colour pencils, coloured pens and other decorative items. When we finished, we came down again for a little drilling.
After which, the Sec 2s proceeded to the area outside of the Innosphere, where we learnt how to hold and pass and chop wood using an axe. We also learnt about the different parts of the axe and how one should use it without injuring themselves and others around them. It was very interesting as all of us had the opportunity to try to cut a piece of wood in half. Even though all of our fingers turned black, I think all of us enjoyed this experience and would love to try it again.
We returned to the concourse and started learning some new cheers. After that came PT. Before we were dismissed, we sang a Happy Birthday Song for Jie Ai PS, Cherie PL and Sheena because it was their birthday today. I enjoyed today’s activity and I am looking forward to the next one.(:

Reflection for 19 July:D

On 19thjuly we had our rehearsal for speech day. I wore my full guides uniform and fall in with the others at 2.20pm after putting our bags in the guides room. After a thorough uniform check, our uniform are all neat and tidy, ready for the rehearsal later on. We were told to assemble at Lecture Hall 1 for a briefing before the actual start of the rehearsal.
As it was my first time participating in the welcoming ceremony, I was very excited and can’t wait to know what I will be doing. After the briefing, we went to the service road where we were arranged according to our height before heading to the designated area near the school hall. Fortunately, the place that we were assigned to stand was under shelter and we do not need to stand under the hot sun :). Our job was to salute to our guest of honour when he walked past us. We practised a few times with other uniform groups until we were prepared. Practice makes perfect, after a few rounds of practice, we were all ready for the big day tomorrow.  After we were released, we gathered at the concourse for our reflection. Overall, I think that the rehearsal is very fun as it is a new experience for me:).

Reflection for 17 July :D

Activity on 17 July was interesting day. We fall in at the concourse at 2.45pm and we were told to wear our full guides uniform. After greeting our seniors, we conducted uniform checks as usual. Then we did role call and horseshoe formation. I find that horseshoe formation was a very formal event and it was only once in a while that we did the formation which makes it very exciting and I look forward to having the next one.
Also it was the very first time we did a horseshoe formation since the sec 4 seniors graduated! Although we made some mistakes, it went fine and everyone gets to receive a certificate and new badges which we can proudly sew on our uniform! It makes me very happy every time we get to receive a new badge as I get a sense of achievement and accomplishment:)
After the horseshoe formation, the sec 1s and sec2s had to take our individual 5-point test. For the sec 2s, we did sewing for one test and written for the other. The sewing was quite fun as I rarely get to sew anything and it was an interesting experience for meJ
Soon, it was time to sing taps and end the guides session.
Overall, time passed really fast and we didn’t get to do much. However, I learnt many new things and received new badges and certificate. I had a fun time during this guides session and I am looking forward to the next guides session:DD

Reflection for 10 July :D

Activity on 10 July was an eventful one. Firstly we started off with the usual, falling in at 2.45, uniform check and roll call. After that we proceeded on with drilling. I feel that we sec 2s have really improved on our drilling although we are all still a bit lag, we could mostly respond to all the commands. After all the drilling, we then did cheering.

Unit Clean Up on 13 July

Harro Guides!

Some changes have been made to the list of people who will be going for the unit clean up on 13 July. This is the final list.

Reflection for 5 July ;D

5th July activity started off with us greeting the seniors and uniform check. While some of the guides went for soap making, some stayed at the concourse to drill. After drilling, we did cheering and played "cat and mouse". That game was really exciting. After that, we continued with drilling. We were taught the proper way to drill and practiced the new style of drilling. It was a little hard for me to adapt to it as was new to us. Lastly, we had a sharing session where we voiced out our feedback about the activity and what we had learnt during the activity. Even though this activity was tiring, I learnt new things, too.

Reflection for 3 July! :D

Today was the first guides activity in semester 2. Activity started out with the usual roll call, collection of forms, uniform check and admin stuff. However for this week activity, we had initiative instead of the usual drilling, cheering sessions!! ^^ Our initiative this week was soap-making where guides were exposed to how the soap that we daily used were made, the sources and the procedures.

Reader's Badge Reminder

Hi Guides

Please take note of the following details as we've noticed that many of you have missed out these details when doing your reader's badge,

1) Write the title, author, clause & criteria
2) Keep your summary and reflection short and sweet - a total of 50-100 words.
3) Separate your summary & reflection into 2 distinct paragraphs
4) If you're caught plagiarising, you will have to re-do. It is very disappointing to see you girls plagiarising, using the works of others as your own and claiming credit instead of putting in effort to do it yourself, especially since YOU are the one getting the badge. To write a summary/reflection is to review the book and write your thoughts using your OWN WORDS.
5) Reflection should be related to Guiding/self
6) Follow the criteria given
7) Write the total number of words at the bottom
8) Write each summary/reflection on a fresh piece of paper. (so that in case you fail any one, you wouldn't have to re-write both)
9) Do not staple your summaries/reflections of different books together
10) Write on a piece of A4 foolscap paper, not papers of any other sizes
11) Remember to write your name, class and patrol
12) Copying from your fellow peers will result in immediate failure

Those who have been asked to re-do, submit your re-done assignments on Friday. For the rest who have not submitted the 3 summary/reflections please do so on Friday or latest by next Wednesday.

Lastly, please bring the piece of paper Wei Ran AQM has passed to you the last activity, as well as a passage of your choice from a book for your oral test.

Thank you.

29/05/2013 Activity Reflection ;D

The activity on 29th May was the last activity for the term and semester before the June holidays. We had our yearly photo taking and the sec 1s and 2s were very excited. We made sure that we looked smart and neat in the guides uniform as it represented our pride for guides. Perhaps it was the last time we could see our sec 4 seniors in the guides uniform, but we will always remember them as our guides seniors and respect them. During the gadget making time, the sec 2s have to guide the sec 1s to make a clothes line. The clothes line that my patrol tied was wobbly and not stable, but we will do better next time. Next, we had PT and I feel that it builds up my stamina and endurance physically. Furthermore, it brings out the ‘one for all; all for one’ spirit of guides. Besides, all the cheering made me feel proud of guides and be motivated to participate enthusiastically.

Reflection 17/5

During activity on 17/9, Friday, its the sec3s first activity as seniors and we were all quite nervous. The sec 2s and sec 1s were told to fall in at 2.30 and as usual, we started the greeting. After that, we started our first activity which was tent pitching! :) Each patrol was told to build a tent and we walked around helping those patrols that were not very sure of how to pitch a tent. After the tents were pitched, Jingyu briefed them slightly and pointed out to them the mistakes they made when pitching the tent and the things to take note of. After that, they were told to unpitch the tent and move on to the next activity which was the making of a sit-upon. Some of us taught the sec 1s to make the sit-upon first and some drilled the sec2s, while the remaining sec3s went to the field to pitch a canvas tent. The sit-upon was quite interesting as I have never made one before and it was quite simple. All thats needed to make a sit-upon is just a few pieces of newspaper!:) Everyone was supposed to make a sit-upon for themselves which will be used for the upcoming june camp! After making the sit-upons, everyone was briefed about the upcoming camp and given a consent form. We sang taps and was dismissed after that:)
As a whole, I think this activity was quite a good experience for us sec3s as we learnt many things from this activity! ^^
